Goa: CCP brands some inheritance buildings in Panaji as 'insecure'

PANAJI: Corporation of Panaji City (PKC) has identified 15 unsafe buildings in the state capital, including the Historical Nacional Clube building, and has said that they pose a risk for people.
CCP commissioner Agnelo Fernandes said that the structure needs to be repaired by the owner as soon as possible, or must be destroyed for security reasons.
The CCP has compiled a list based on routine inspection of old and dilapidated structures within city limits.
This list includes the residence of Maria Fernandes near Confidant Advertising, Andrew Fernandes in Curtin, Tony Lopes behind the Post Office and other housing structures belonging to Fernando Lobo and Maria Sequeira.
“Most of the owners cannot be traced.
Some structures are locked and the owners are abroad.
Even the tenants who have existed for decades said it was very difficult to track the heirs,” Fernandes said.
In 2017, the CCP has a list of 11 unsafe buildings, including housing and commercial structures, and with time, the list has grown longer, with the same building still finding a CCP list.
Even though part 272 from the city of Panaji Corporation acts empowering the CCP to serve notifications and expel people from unsafe buildings, the status quo continues.
“Some structures are not inhabited, but if there is a collapse, it can damage the vehicle parked near the structure,” he said.
Section 271 of the CCP law empowers the commissioner to declare a building or an inappropriate structure for residence if the building is found structurally weak.
However, in the case of structures declared unsafe by the CCP in the past, nothing has changed.
Meanwhile, four CCP stories next to the fish market, which is one of the structures declared unsafe and sealed by the CCP in 2017, did not find the mention in the list of 2021.
