Saligao: Municipal Board Muntus (MMC) Chairman of Shubangi Vaigankar has said that he will try his best level to ensure that CCTV cameras that do not function in leading places are reinstalled before Ganesh Chaturthi.
Toi has reported in June that most CCTV cameras in the city of Mapusa have been considered non-functional due to lack of maintenance.
Locals demanded that the authorities concern this problem immediately and get an operational camera.
“CCTV cameras were installed about four years ago, but there was no maintenance carried out and as a result, most did not work.
We have prepared an estimate to get 14 CCTV cameras because we get special funds from the central government to install this camera for free.
I Want to adjust the camera before Ganesh Chaturthi, but I have to take the board resolution and prepare a tender.
This process can take around 15 days, “he said.
MMC has installed a CCTV camera in the municipal building and in a strategic location including a circle of Gandhi, entry and out of the KTC bus stand, the sub-registrar office, Aldona taxi stands among others.
However, the camera installed in Gandhi Circle was hung to a wire while another camera pointed down instead of facing the road.
Elsewhere also the camera does not work and fails to capture images.
Opposition members Sudhir Kandolkar said CCTV cameras are the need for hours to help keep the inspection of crimes that increase in Mapapa.
“The camera must be installed before Chaturhti because it will help to maintain an examination of crime and public levels will benefit from it,” he said.
