Panaji: With the festival season around the corner, the Directorate of Food and Narcotics Administration (FDA) has directed all food business operators in Goa to register for cleanliness audits within 30 days.
The FDA has also requested all outlets that sell candy to display the expiration date next to each Candy Tray or a fine payment of risk.
All restaurants, bakeries, meat shops, sweet shops and other stores that sell food must conduct a hygiene ranking audit and all food outlets that have a permit Manufacturing category need to send their annual returns online before August 31 which fails 100 per day will be collected .
“Food business operators (FBO) are engaged in selling candy (Indian Candy) must be required to display the best before the date in each sweet tray displayed at their counter.
Non Compliance will withdraw a penalty,” said FDA Director Jyoti Sardesai.
Last year, FSSAI had obliged to write ‘the best before dates’ on the candy plate in stores for open sweets, but did not impose restrictions on the date to make candy.
Sweet candy and food have brought the expiration date along with the details of the manufacturer and food security license.
All FBOs will be required to display their FSSAI licenses and registrations and applying food security boards (FSDB) in place of business in a prominent place and also print it on bills issued to customers, the FDA said.
Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on September 10, followed by Dussehra in October and Diwali in November.
The new direction of the FDA is as needed to take effect last year.
Food outlets also need to have at least one person who has food security training and certification (Fostac).
All applications for new licenses and updates must be made online through the FSSAI portal.
