Panaji: Month after the Minister of Chief Pramod Sawant came to a sharp criticism of his uncensified comment about the gangrap of the small girls on the coast of South Goa, he said on Monday that the state government would soon take more steps to ensure the safety and security of women in States.
Sawant, who had previously rejected the problem of increasing crime against women, indirectly recognized the state needing to do more.
“We will take more steps towards women’s safety and security in the coming days,” he said in the Prime Function of the National Women’s Parliament, organized by the Legislative Secretariat and the State Government.
While he said he was upset when crime committed to women in the state, the minister’s head stated that Goa led all other countries where the detection of crime was concerned.
“Goa has a 93% crime detection rate.
One cannot compare this with other countries,” he said.
A few months ago, Sawant had told the state assembly after gangrape underage children who were teenagers, especially minors, may not “spend the night on the beach”.
“When the 14-year-old child remains on the beach all night, parents need introspection.
Only because children do not listen, we cannot bear responsibility for the government and the police,” he has tried to justify.
Sawant said the resolution submitted in the National Women’s Parliament would be sent to the Cave and Parliamentary Assembly as well.
Highlighting Goa’s achievements, Sawant said the state had provided a 33% reservation for women in Line Panchayat and Zilla Panchayat, allowing many people to become public representatives.
He also said the Goa was steadily becoming independent, the purpose to be achieved in this matter, the 60th year of his release.
The national female parliament, he said, has been organized to encourage women on road business, career, work and leadership.
He also said that people from all sectors must visit the venue and participate in debates and discussions involving the scheme of the central and state government, and the problems faced by women, among others.
Praising women to work in all sectors, the State Union Minister Shripad rises to advise them to come out in large quantities and bring developed countries.
Benaulim NCP MLA Churchill Alemoo, who was also present at the event, urged the minister’s head to protect the communal harmony of the country.
The National Women’s Parliament consists of participants from Arunachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, Tamil Nadu and Gujarat.
The first day saw a session on socio-political challenges on women’s empowerment, women’s status and the strength of decision-making, and women in the lives of the company.
