PANAJI: The North and South Goa collectors on Wednesday issued a corrigendum to their earlier orders extending the state curfew till June 14.
In it, they clarified that schools and colleges will be shut “for students only”.
Earlier, the orders issued by the collectors had said that educational institutes will remain shut till June 14 during the extended state curfew, without clarifying if this applied to only students or teaching and non-teaching staff, too.
This had created confusion among school and college administration and staffers.
“In the above referred order dated June 6, 2021, issued under Section 144 of CrPC, 1973, the para 1j shall be read as under: ‘schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions for students (however, examinations of college students and holding competitive examinations will be permitted with the approval of government).
The other contents of the order shall remain unchanged,” the collectors said in their orders issued on Wednesday.
The corrigendum saw the word “students” inserted, clarifying that educational institutes were shut only for students.
The directorate of education and higher education had issued orders on June 4 asking schools and colleges to open their doors from June 7 and asking teaching and non-teaching staff to report to work.
On June 6, however, the two collectors issued orders which appeared contradictory.
The order issued on June 6 had read, “The following activities/establishment/facilities/events shall remain closed: schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutes, except for examinations of college students’.
