COLVA: Though cyclone Tauktae inflicted wide-spread damage throughout the country, in Colva beach, the current beautification and developmental work undertaken has fallen prey to its own anger. Several electric rods are lying , while lamps on a number of the rods have vanished. The gazebos set on the shore too have suffered harm. Though these ornamental rods have a tendency to get torn up in stormy weather each year, this time round, the harm was caused even prior to the monsoon starts. The beautification work started in 2018 and until recently, almost Rs 11.7 crore was spent on functions like beautification of the street and the current island, landscaping, lighting and structure of drainage and drainage systems, bathroom blocks together with changing rooms, and four-wheeler parking centre for 80 automobiles along with two-wheeler parking supply to get 327 vehicles, 54 parking areas for people vehicles and perform equipment for the children’s play area. The whole project is financed jointly by the central and state authorities under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme on 40:60 basis. In 2020, seven gazebos made from steel and fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) were set up, six in Colva and one in Sernabatim shore. Claiming the gazebos were ideally suited for Goan weather states, GTDC officials needed in the time claimed they might withstand weather conditions. Nevertheless, in August itself that the only gazebo at Sernabatim shore and four in Colva beach were ruined because of inclement weather and they had been dismantled for repairs. The only at Sernabatim shore was not re-installed and in Colva, by a total of six, just four gazebos stayed. Stating that guy is helpless before character, Goa Tourism Development Corporation managing director Nikhil Desai stated that a comprehensive report of this harm is already submitted to the authorities. Further, he also said repairs would be undertaken at the course of time.
