PANAJI: The electricity department will replace all meters with smart meters below the Government of the National Smart Indian meter program.
Test 250 smart meters, which provides real time data to the department for better planning, complete.
Meters are placed throughout the cave in different fields and the department found that they were 95% efficient.
This department is now planning a plan for 6.5 lakh meter fasewise installations and has a replacement plan of around 50,000 meters at the end of the financial year.
About 30% of the cost of each meter will be borne by the center and the rest by the department.
“There will be no fees for consumers.
The department will pay the balance in installments over the next eight years,” said Chief Electrical Engineer Raghuvir Keni.
Through a smart meter program, the Indian government aims to bring efficiency in the power distribution system that leads to better service.
About how it will benefit consumers, Keni says meters, connected through a web-based monitoring system, will ensure monitoring of real time consumption, accurate data analysis and better power management.
“When there is better planning, consumers will receive better quality strength.
Through specially designed applications, consumers will also be able to monitor consumption in their homes,” Keni said, adding that countries such as rising and Rajasthan put this meter.
The system will provide areas-wise and time that day, consumption data and lack of capacity, which will help the department in its upgrade projects.
Meter will help the department keep the check theft.
“It will bring more efficiency to the entire system and help the department divert power losses.
Every abnormal activity will automatically reflect in the system.
This is a very easy system that eliminates as much human intervention as possible and reduces the scope of manipulation,” Keni said.
