Ponda: Ponda security is at risk as a closed circuit television monitoring system (CCTV) installed throughout the city has been abandoned by the authorities over the past four years.
Chairman of the Ponda City Council (PMC) Shantaram Kolvenkar said the system was lying not used because it was not managed by the authorities.
However, the source of South Collectorate Goa said that it was decided that PMC would maintain the system.
“Collectoran has even paid Rs 8.12 lakh from February 2017 to January 2019 for the maintenance and maintenance of the system after the end of the one-year warranty period,” added the source.
The sophisticated supervision system was obtained in 2015 with the aim of preventing unwanted incidents by monitoring real-time activities, including discipline and traffic crimes.
Overall 22 CCTV cameras have been installed in 16 locations throughout the city.
NuPur Electronics, a Panaji-based company, has provided a surveillance system with a cost of Rs 32.9 lakh in 2015.
The supervision system has a recording unit, video display units and CCTV cameras including a fixed night vision camera and pan-tilt zoom (PTZ Camera ).
The camera is connected to the DVR in the main monitoring unit installed in the National Informatics Center (NIC) control room at the South Collectorate Goa, Margao for recording video taken.
