Panaji: Former Minister of Union and AICC election observer for Goa P Chidambaram will arrive in the state for a week to discuss the election strategy with party officials.
Before his arrival, Chidambaram would meet with the Interim Congress President Sonia Gandhi and also held a meeting with the Goa desk responsible for Dinesh Gundu Rao to take stock of party bearings in Goa.
Congress vice president of Goa M K Sheikh said that Chidambaram will meet with party officials in North Goa on August 25 and spend August 26 in the carrier of the South Goa meeting office, the President’s Block, Frontal Organization.
The news of Chidambaram’s visit had re-ignited expectations between the rank of parties and submitted that significant change would be brought to revitalize the party.
“Chidambaram will meet and discuss with party officials and will take input to complete the strategy for the upcoming assembly selection,” Sheikh said.
Chidambaram has been appointed by AICC to oversee the election strategy and ensure coordination for the assembly selection of 2022.
The responsible AICC Goa table will arrive in Goa two days earlier and will interact with the party functionaries for four days starting from August 23.
Workers and party officials said that Chidambaram and Rao had to immediately decide whether the party would form an alliance with “like-leadership” to outsmart BJP in the election.
The high command party also needs to call the role of Girish Chodankar as President of the State Unit.
The Grand Old Party has since failed to form a government even though it emerged as the biggest party in the 2017 assembly election.
Under Chodankar’s watch, the party’s strength in the state legislature had shrunk to five MLA at home 40 members.
