Margao: After destroying the gang that grabbed the chain last week, the police Maina Centorim has so far recovered gold worth 8 lakh from the defendant, and the investigation is underway if they are involved in more cases.
The police have arrested Mohammed Sarfaraz, 21, a resident of Davorlim and Ajay aka Rooney, 24, a resident of Ponda and Indigenous Herelagavi, who was allegedly involved in at least 10 chain cases called the country.
A goldpayer, Lilesh Lotikar from Borda, Margao, was also arrested for allegedly buying a stolen property from a thief.
Defendant at this time in police custody six days.
The police have so far recovered 182g of gold in liquid form worth Rs 8 lakh from goldsmiths.
A motorcycle used by the defendant in committing a previous crime was restored by the police.
Police sources said that gangs would watch women walk alone on remote roads and seize their gold chains before escaping from the place.
“There is a possibility of involvement of more hands accused.
Also, we are investigating whether other goldsmith has bought stolen ornaments from them,” said a police source.
