PANAJI: Transportation Minister Mauvin Godinho said on Wednesday that because of the increase in fuel prices, the state government had decided to provide taxi operators rates for Rs 3 per km.
“I have promised a pretty good increase, whether it’s a yellow-and-black taxi or a tourist taxi operator in Goa,” he said.
“Notifications have been issued and will be included in the news Thursday The last tariff fixation was conducted in 2014, when the operator gets Rs 21 on KM.
Transportation officials say that the increase in RS 3 will also match the next km.
“This is a uniform increase in all tariffs, and RS 3 is a standard rate for all types of taxis,” said an official.
“For example, from RS 21 before, taxi operators will now get RS 24 for the first km and this will follow the next km.
The tariff has been enhanced uniformly for both,” the transportation officer said.
Rates will be implemented as soon as orders are published in government gazettes.
Taxi operators in the state have demanded an increase in tariff rates as one of the requirements for the installation of digital costs in their vehicles.
The Department of Transportation in May has issued public notifications that invite feedback from stakeholders about revisions of taxi rates in Goa.
Follow that, the tariff is revised accordingly.
Union leaders from tourist taxis and yellow and black taxis said that they had not seen the revised rates, and would react to the increase when they did it.
