PANAJI: Coastal Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) has ordered a hotel in Vaddy, Candolim, to stop all commercial activities because local Panchayat has issued a command of demolition against them for violations of coastal regulations (CRZ).
Locals complained against the hotel to carry out construction in the crz area, by damaging the coast in Vaddy.
But hotel representatives failed to appear for GCZMA hearings, and the authorities have now decided to serve fresh notifications through police to hotels for hearings.
Meanwhile, GCZMA has ordered the hotel to stop operating commercial activities from alleged illegal structures.
“The authority decided to issue the commandment order of commercial activities to respondents remembering the demolition command issued by the village of Panchayat, who was in a record.
Police and representatives of collectors, Bardez, will ensure compliance,” GCZMA said.
GCZMA first received complaints from Vaddy Locals in March this year against the hotel.
This was followed by another complaint by Candolim residents later in the same month.
Complaints stated that the hotel has illegally carried out the construction of a pool with deck, balance tanks for swimming pools, seating areas, restaurants, steps in front of the restaurant stage, bathroom with basin wash and laterite floors in front.
Illegal construction using laterite stones has been carried out by hotels by destroying beaches, dunes, and beach vegetation in Vaddy, Candolim, allegedly local residents.
In August this year, another local group, the Calangute Constitution forum, filed a third complaint against the hotel.
However, this hotel failed to give birth to representatives for GCZMA hearing.
“The authority decided to issue a new notification to respondents (hotels) to be served through police inspectors, the Calangute police station,” Gczma said.
GCZMA will listen to this problem on October 28.
