Panaji: The Country Cabinet on Friday approved an amendment that would enable people who live in the Panchayat area to build a new house by destroying their old homes with permission from Pancayat and no other authority.
The state has also decided to collect home taxes from illegal homes built in the state, and only for this purpose, the government will distribute the number of houses.

The amendment to the Goa Law Pancayat Raj also seeks to introduce the provisions in which one can replace the roof of the tile with a slab.
It will be permitted for a single residential unit before the enactment of the 1994 law, subject to the production of stability certificates by structural engineers registered.
Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho said that most houses in Goa had roof tiles.
He also said that when people want to reconstruct their homes to be bigger, they face abuse.
Godinho said people must approach various departments for permission, and because of this abuse, ordinary people build illegally.
