Panaji: In perhaps the first in this country, students of class IX and X of 400 secondary schools in the state are arranged to learn about biodiversity and climate change as part of their school curriculum from the next academic year.
The Goa Country Biodiversity Board (GSBB), through the State Ministry of Environment, and the Secondary Education Council to Goa signed MoU on Wednesday to promote awareness of biodiversity and the importance of preserving human welfare.
“Mou will see awareness about biodiversity submitted among students from 400 secondary schools and later, expanded to 105 secondary school students affiliated with the cave council.
This means that at least 1 Lakh students will be affected.
These students will then enter the college below Goa University and will assist in starting discourses about biodiversity at all of these levels, which is very important in the age of global warming and climate change, “said Minister of Environment Nilesh Cabral.
He said it was hoped that the curriculum would eventually help 191 Biodiversity Management Committee operating at the Level of Panchayat Village and 13 which operated at the city level in their conservation efforts.
In addition, this high school teacher will also be hit by a curriculum in biodiversity in its process, the Minister of Environment said.

Secretary of GSBB member Pradip Sarmokadam, Chair of the State Secretary of Kunal and Council of Goa Bhagirath Shetye was present at the MoU signing.
