Panaji: Goa Prints impressive performance in the Swayachh Swachh 2021 hygiene survey nationally, climbing ranks to third place among 14 countries that have less than 100 urban local agencies.
Jharkhand continues to add list, followed by Haryana.
Goa is seventh in the 2020 edition of Swachh Survekshan.
State capital, Panaji, increases its ranking slightly, up to 208 out of 304 cities with a population between 25,000 and 50,000.
Panaji was placed in 213 in the 2020 edition of national training.
Mapapa also managed to reach 238 among 304 cities.
Both Mapapa and Panaji got a score better than the national average in terms of service level progress, lack of defecation and other cleanliness parameters.
Mormugao and Margao barely managed to reach the top 125 of the top cities in the West, with the port city ranked 115th and Margao came in 124 among cities with 50,000 lakh residents in the western region.
President of RAM Nath Kovind gave awards for the cleanest cities, with Indore walking away with the title of the country’s cleanest city for the fifth consecutive year.
Letter and Vijayawada bagged the second and third place among cities with more than one lakh population.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Mohua) organizes ‘Swachh Amrit Mahotsav’ as part of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, to recognize good work carried out by countries and cities.
In the State award, Chhattisgarh appeared as the cleanest for the third year in a row for countries with more than 100 city bodies, while Jharkhand combined his position as the cleanest country with awarded awards for both countries with less than 100 local agencies of urban areas.
In the 2019 edition of the cleanliness survey, Panaji took place 337 of 4,203 urban areas, while Goa was ranked 18th among all countries.
Apart from the challenges posed by Covid-19, a team consisting of more than 2,000 assessors visited more than 65,000 wards throughout the country.
Maharashtra has managed to pocket a total of 92 awards, the highest by any country in Survekshan this year, followed by Chhattisgarh with 67 awards.
Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0, launched on October 1, will focus on ensuring complete access to sanitation facilities for all.
