PANAJI: The population category that is not vaccinated is likely to be affected by the most if a third wave of pandemic, Minister of Health Vishwajit Rane said, adding that the state was fully prepared and well equipped to handle cases on the third wave account.
There are 101 Neo-Christmas intensive care units available and, in addition, the expert committee has proposed that additional 10 Nicus was assigned urgently for Goa Medical College and five for North Goa District Hospital.
“There are also 36 pediatric icus (Picus) available in Goa.
The Expert Committee has recommended an increase in a trigger bed from 6 to 14 and also to set a new 60-sleep trigger and two maternal and child health wards (MCH) each in a special block Super (SSB), “Rane stated in a written reply in the legislative assembly.
It has proposed that if there is a surge in case and the need appears, the administration will be ready to convert 20% of the regular ICU bed into the trigger bed.
“It is also proposed that if there is a large increase in the number of Covid cases in a population under 18 years, then one hospital in each district must be named a pediatric hospital that is dedicated and for the purpose of the identification process will begin immediately.” Rane said.
The government has formed the Task Force Committee 15 members of 10 doctors with the main minister as chairman and head of the department, the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine as a member secretary for the formulation and implementation of strategies to overcome the third wave.
This is the addition of the expert committee of 14 members led by the Dean of GMC, and other doctors to notify the task and government units and provide recommendations on steps that must be taken to handle the anticipated third wave.
The Directorate of Health Services has employed 567 doctors, nurses, technical staff, and multi-tasking staff based on contracts for Covid management.
“Apart from the doctor and internship from GMC and Goa Dental College have been deployed for the Covid task,” Rane said.
