Ponda: The three-year-old female leopard died after being hit by a train near Collem in Pokarmol-Kalem at Dharbandora Taluka Thursday night.
The Mollem Forest Division has taken a carcass for an investigation.
Deputy Mollem forest conservator A jabester said the wild animal could meet with an accident while crossing the track.
Leopard was found to lie dead in the middle of the track.
The local source said that the big cat suddenly could find the train approached, but it might not be able to escape because it could be blinded for a moment because of the light of the train.
He also suspected that the train item could affect animals because there were no passenger trains that ran along the route.
