Goa: Lockdown Migrant Exodus shows in the registration sauce

Panaji: In the first indication that the exodus of the migrant family during a pandemic has had a negative impact on school registration, the ratio of gross registration of Goa (GER) has shown that for the 2019-20 academic year, directly from the base level to a higher level.
However, other factors such as the birthday rates dropped also contributed to the decline.
Drop in Ger is the most at higher school level, up to 68.5 from 71.9 recorded during the previous academic year 2018-19.
At the secondary school level or class IX and X, the gross registration ratio fell to 90.3 compared to 91.8 years earlier.
GER is the number of children registered in schools from the total population in the school age bracket.
Goa statistics emerged during the annual review carried out by the Central Government official from the implementation of Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in the state.
“The state needs to focus on increasing GER at all levels by bringing back children to classes according to age by taking the necessary initiatives including community mobilization, and the results must reflect data for the 2020-21 academic year,” State instructions to Goa after the review, Related to the release of funds from the center.
Central Education Ministry officials also noted that the recognition and mainstreaming program of goa from school children was also exposed to a pandemic.
State officials, however, told TOI that many migrant families who went during a pandemic never returned, influencing registration.
“Previously, the migrant family of mining workers went to other countries to find work.
During the pandemic, many other migrant families left and it had had an impact because many did not return.
Instead of students around who was at home and not registered at school , “said a state official.
He said that there were other factors that contributed to registration.
“In recent years, cave registration has dropped even before the migrant exodus.
This shows the effect of small drops in the birth rate.
Also, when calculating the registration ratio, certain population figures are considered students in the school age group.
But, for various reasons, this number It may have been an excessive estimate of the actual population, “the official said.
However, the registration of Goa School at the top primary level also shows the lower movement for 2019-20.
Ger of class VIII was 91.8, compared to 93.8 in 2018-19.
At the elementary school level, registration reached 99.1 like fighting 100.9 before.
“The state must also provide information about the children of migrant workers who are affected by being locked as a result of Covid-19 pandemic.
The state has not identified children outside the school in the age group 16 to 19 as suggested by the ministry.
This process needs to be resolved more Beginning, “said central government officials on Goa in SSA reviews.
Their age groups identified as school children have increased to add those aged 16 to 19 now.
