Margao: It was his dream of having a Toyota Fortuner who led Mohammed Sarfaraz aged 21 years to steal the gold chain from a non-suspiciously woman, who finally landed in the police dragnet.
Sarfaraz, a resident of Davorlim, along with his hands, a 24-year-old Ajay alias Rooney, a resident of Ponda and the native of Beleagavi, was arrested by the main police-Curtorim recently.
Gang chain chains, the word source of police, has been involved in at least 15 cases throughout Goa.
Sarfaraz has a tendency to drive a luxury car and Toyota Fortuner has captured his imagination.
He had looked at him having his dream car even though he knew he was unable to buy one.
His lust for the car made the better him and he was forced to steal.
To make the job easier, he chose what he thought would be a soft target – woman.
Sarfaraz, with his accomplice, will follow a woman walking alone on remote streets and seizing their gold chains before running away from that place.
They sometimes use two-wheeled while committing a crime.
The sudden increase in the number of incidents that mention the chain has confused the police, which managed to get the main instructions in the investigation when they identified Sarfaraz as the main perpetrators.
The police team was formed to capture the young man and a large breakthrough achieved when Sarfaraz walked to the police dragnet on August 22.
Next, his accomplice, Ajay, was also arrested.
The source said that a few days before his arrest, Sarfaraz had told his friends that he “earned” to buy a “fortuner” and that he would immediately make his dream come true.
Police sources said the two defendants would sell the gold chain stolen to Lilesh Lotlick, a goldener based in Borda, Margao, who would melt the ornaments to destroy the trail of the evidence he bought.
Sarfaraz spilled beans during police investigations and lotcarts were arrested too.
The police have so far recovered 182g of gold in liquid form worth Rs 8 Lakh from Lotaru.
