PANAJI: NIMFA Malabar Tree, which is known for its interesting black and white wing patterns and unique flight movements, declared a cave state butterfly on Thursday, at the Goa Fifth Bird Festival in Chorao.
This makes eighth goa in the country to have a state symbol species.
Malabar Tree Nymph won the voice very well when the State Forest Department conducted consultation with scientists, ecology, conservationist, and society.
This species is endemic with Western Ghats and although found in Maharashtra Southern, the actual distribution starts from Goa.
Malabar Tree Nymph has a 120-154mm wing.
“The plants emphasized by caterpillar were found throughout the riparian forest landed along the flow of water and water bodies.
This highlights the habitat of species,” said Naturalist Parag Rangnekar.
Butterflies have interesting flights because they slide on the tree canopy, suddenly stop flying and start floating.
“Goa is not just about the sun, sand and the sea, but also known for tourism inland, Patriotic Tourism and Patriotic Tourism and the Government seeks to promote all types of tourism to improve tourism activities in Goa,” said Chairman of the Pramod Sawant minister when he stated the butterfly Goa state.
The two-day Goa bird festival is being hosted at Dr.
Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, Chorao.
A short film on the state butterfly was also filtered on that occasion.
In the areas in Goa like Bibttyan, Brahma-Karmali, Sattari, Nimfa Tree Malabar found throughout the year in Evergreen vegetation.
The Ministry of Forestry has established an ecological committee and commander, Clipper, General Jezebel and Oakleaf Blue is the other four butterflies selected.
Some of the attributes considered when choosing state butterflies is the uniqueness of species, endemism, ecological status, meeting level, aesthetic appeal, conservation status and related cultural interests.
At the event on Thursday, members of the Bird Conservation Network (GBCN) Mandar Bhagat were also made of work in the field of conservation.
