Panaji: BJP has been abandoned in a shameful position in Bicholim fortress after the party sits MLA and speaker Rajesh Pathekar decided not to do the contest and two other people who were approached by the party, also refused his offer.
“I have told the party that I did not want to oppose the election on the health page.
Any candidate who was given a party ticket, I would wholeheartedly work for him,” Patnekar Toi said.
After Patnekar conveyed to his reluctance party to oppose the selection of assembly scheduled for February 14, BJP approached the other two – Independent candidates from Chandrakan Shetye and the Maharashtrawadi Party of the Gomantak Party (MGP) candidates Naresh Sawal – for the contest on BJP tickets, but they also refused to offer party.
CM Pramod Sawant and Party Secretary General (Organization) Satish Dhond tried to convince the Sawwal to switch from MGP, while BJP President Sadanand State Shet Tanavade tried to get a shetye to the party.
“I have refused BJP’s offer because I didn’t want to ruin my image.
I will be with Bicholim people,” Sawwal said to Ti.
Shetye also refused the offer to compete as BJP candidates after consulting with their supporters.
“I have refused BJP’s offer.
I want to be with my supporters and do ethical and moral politics.
I will work for an increase in poor people in the electoral district that has been ignored so far,” Shetye also told Tii.
BJP’s inability to find a suitable candidate in his castle has made political observers flummox.
“It is very surprising that the party with strong organizational arrangements in Bicholim has not resolved candidates and walked from the pillar to the post to import candidates,” said a political observer.
Without other participants for party nomination, former members of Zilla Panchayat Shilpa rose had become a danger for the contest on BJP tickets.
Patnekar has secured Bicholim for three terms since 2002, except in 2012, when he stopped BJP and contested as Congress candidates.
Patnekar was defeated by the Sawal, which was contested as independent.
Sawal and Shetye have started their election campaign.
During the election of the new city council, BJP, Sawal and Shetye have lowered their panels.
However, Patnekar managed to secure the BJP Board with 10 seats, with the support of an independent candidate.
The Sawal panel secures three seats and the only one.
Previously during the election of ZP, independent candidates supported by Shetye have won the latambcem seat.
