Panaji: The state government has appointed the Institute of Energy Research (Teri) to formulate expanded policies (EPR) responsibilities and to implement a single plastic ban on use.
The Department of Environment has received proposals from Teri to prepare EPR policies based on nominations, said a senior officer.
According to the proposal, the department is not responsible for making any payment to Teri, after the EPR policy is compiled by Teri received and notified, 1.5% of the amount collected from EPR enforcement must be paid to the Institute for three years, senior officers said.
In addition to developing policies, research institutions will collect data, both qualitative and quantitative, in solid waste, especially plastic waste, from various places.
It will also define producers, types of waste and generation of waste, preparing reports on generation of plastic waste and current situations and implementing status of PWM rules, 2016, (as amended in 2018) and presenting case studies for plastic exit phases of single use and products ally.
Other activities include identifying gaps in waste management in various parts of Goa, carrying out needs analysis, preparing SOPs and training kits for various stakeholders and producers.
While preparing an EPR policy, it would consider the management of sustainable and integrated solid waste and prepared a plan to remove plastic and allied products (one-use and packaging) from Goa.
Senior officers said that Teri will also hold webinars or workshops with stakeholders to provide an overview of the project and to discuss the issue of EPR.
