PANAJI: In an effort to ensure the continuity of the container feeder ship, Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) has decided to provide a big discount to every shipping company that started a new feeder service.
To push the resumption of a container ship, the MPT has released ship costs to call the first port for a container feeder ship.
Sima Marine has announced that she has stopped its container ship service from MPT from August 3 due to lack of adequate volume and other infrastructure barriers.
“With the courageous business decision from the port management it was announced that MSc India was considering placing its own ship immediately for the Exim container itself,” said Chairman of the MPT Rajiv Jalota.
JALOTA said that other feeder ship operators also showed interest in starting the coastal exports feeder feeder service in MPT.
Recently, Maersk Line asked his customers to stop taking a container booking from MPT after Sima Marine stopped the feeder service.
This step has a “very negative impact” in the entire trading value chain of containerization in Goa.
After the trade body and industrial stakeholders caused an alarm, MPT took a problem with the operator of the feeder and container agent and the JALOTA assured that all steps might be taken to maintain container services.
“Apart from adequate volume challenges, there is also a challenge from a reliable and efficient Crane Shore (Harbor Mobile Crane) on MPT Goa.
Port has decided to overcome this problem in a short period of time possible through the Sagarmala funding route or other suitable ways,” Jalota said.
MPT held a meeting on Thursday where it was agreed to announce many discounts for feeder vessels along with additional discounts for the next three months for container ships during the seafood export season.
JALOTA said that not sustainable discounts for the long term and the only way to ensure regular container services by producing large volumes of cargo containerization.
