Panaji: Candidates for the Congress Assembly poll in Goa will take a promise of loyalty to parties before the senior leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday, when he will make a daily visit to the state, a party official said.
During a visit, Gandhi will also discuss the public meeting in the constituency of the Sankhalim Assembly, which is currently represented by the Head of the Minister of State and the BJP Pramod Sawant leader, he said.
The general election to all 40 seat assembly in Goa will be held on February 14 and the results will be stated on March 10.
Congress has been tied with the Forward Goa Party (GFP) for polls.
While the old party of the Grand has lowered 37 candidates, GFP fights with three seats.
“On his arrival in Goa on Friday, Rahul Gandhi will hold a meeting with party leaders in the international center in Dona Paula,” said Congress Committee spokesman Congress Pradesh (GPCC).
“The party has designed a program called a loyalty promise at 1pm, where poll candidates and other leaders will take an oath of loyalty to the party before Gandhi,” he added.
At 3 pm, Gandhi was scheduled to interact with various stakeholders in the state and at 5 pm, he would discuss public meetings in Sankhalim, said party officials.
In the past five years, the congress crashed the most difficult by the defection in Goa which was ruled by BJP because most of his legislators quit the party.
In 2019, as many as 10 Congress legislators had joined the powerful BJP, whose current strength was in the assembly standing at 27.
The Grand Party, which has emerged as the biggest single power by winning 17 seats at home 40 members after the election of assembly 2017, now only has two MLA at home.
Recently, the Congress has taken the Candidate of Goa’s polls to a temple, a church, a Gurdwara and Dargah in the state, where they were made to take a promise that they would not be defective if they were elected.
