Panaji: Reacting to the advice of Panchayats Minister Mauavin Godinho to develop Porvorim as a new Panaji, Mla Rohan Khaunte who independently say porvorim people have the right to decide what they need.
“The minister says his mind, but the point must be given by people as far as Porvorim concerning,” Khaunte said.
He said that Porvorim was a mixture of urban and rural and hence, expenses and income were far different compared to others.
Former Commissioner of State Information (SIC) Juino de Souza said it was time for Porvorim to be declared the capital of Goa as all the institutions important, including the assembly complex, located there and mainly because the capital of Panaji “has reached a saturation point..” Dsouza played an important role In debating before the full restriction commission led by Chairman of Justice Kuldip Singh (Retd Supreme Court Hakim) at his public hearing to maintain the name of the constituency as Porvorim, which was proposed to be converted to Penha de Franca.
De Souza said he also opposed Annexing of Porvorim to Panaji Municipality-CCP and protests had produced Porvorim bandh with the following state governments to bring down the idea of anexation.
