Panaji: Senior Congress of MLA and former Head of Pratapsingh Rane seemed to have decided about fighting for February 14 elections with him by saying that he would stand on a congressional ticket.
The day before, Rane had denied the suggestion that he had asked BJP to involve his daughter-in-law from Poriem on his name.
“Poriem doesn’t belong to my father I can decide to hand it to anyone,” Rane said.
In December, the Congress was named Rane as his candidate for Poriem shortly after his son, Vishwajit, claimed claims to the constituency.
On Thursday, BJP picked up his daughter-in-law, Deviya as his candidate for Poriem.
Goa BJP responsible for Devendra Fadniv said that he had spoken to Rane to discuss the constituency of Poriem and BJP candidate.
“If the party has stated my name as a candidate, the question of me, does not fight does not appear,” Rane said.
Veteran Parliament members often signal their retirement ahead of each election.
Senior Congress electoral observer for Goa P Chidambaram has explained that while the party has nomined Rane as a candidate, the decision was up to the last.
