MARGAO: The work of the South Western Railway Double Tracking Project (SWR) on the stretch of Goa, which is affected because the migration of returning workers due to a pandemic, has now collected steps.
Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) has finished putting the second track between kulem to Majorda.
The train source said that the trial running on the second lane on this stretch will be done soon.
RVNL has now set 2022 March as a target to complete the double tracking Vasco-kulem route.
Working on certain stretches between Majorda and Vasco has been based on rigid opposition from the local population.
The Central Empowerment Committee (CEC) report recommends that the cancellation of the Supreme Court from a double tracking project has added ammunition to the opposition.
CEC in his report was submitted to the court on April 23, calls the project as “inefficient”, “not justified” and “potentially destructive” even because it has raised concerns about the threat to biodiversity hotspots, and designate train failures in utilizing most of the existing capacities from a single train track.
The source said that considering the opposition, the stretch of Major-Vasco 17 KM would likely be postponed even though it would not affect the commissioning of a double tracked route in Goa.
Deputy collector, Mormugao, who has been appointed as a competent authority and land acquisition officer, is currently conducting a trial of objections submitted to land acquisition for double tracking projects.
Electrification Double tracked routes are also ongoing in the Goa section.
“A double unreloved area will also be reduced and made operational as a single lane,” said an Indian Senior Railways official.
The multiplied route Hublet-Hubli-Tinalii-Vasco route will also be electrified.
