Panaji: For more than twenty years after Goa received its first water policy, the team under the Department of Water Resources (WRD) has compiled a 2021 policy document which is revised to ensure future water security for the country.
However, the contents of the policy may be surprising for the state government.
While the Chairman of the Minister of Pramod Sawant recently promised 16,000 liters of free drinking water supplies per month for each household, a new policy suggested that not provide water, call it resources owned by the community.
It states that charging for water ensures its economic use because it is a resource associated with the growth of the country in the future.
“Water is a common nature of people and therefore, every user must pay the water he uses, even if the user holds water with his own costs.
The state must make a large investment in the infrastructure needed to extract water from natural sources, processing it , and bring it to the user.

The document goes further and recommends charging consumers based on the use of water volume in an effort to ensure its wise use.
