Panaji: MLA Independent twice from Porvorim, Rohan Khaunte, on Wednesday resigned as MLA.
He will join BJP on Friday in front of the party election party responsible for Devendra Fadnivis.
Toi is the first to report in Wednesday’s edition that Khaunte will soon join BJP.
Khaunte will be the third MLA, and second from Bardez Taluka, to join BJP in two weeks.
Previously, Saligao Forward Party Mla Jayesh Salgaonkar and Ponda Mla Ravi Congress rose to stop and join BJP.
With the resignation of Khaunte, the strength of the house of 40 members has been reduced to 36 MLA.
Khaunte said he resigned as Mla Porvorim in a greater interest of the people of Porvorim and the country.
“Politics has changed dramatically in Goa.
For example, political parties come to Goa and say Khell Bahlo.
I don’t think Goa is a toy store and I don’t think we are toys and I will let goans into a toy.
For this, we need to take steps.

Khaunte, who briefly teased the congress before finally moving towards the fold of BJP, said: “We know what Congress and other political parties and with the arrival of new parties in Goa, political scenarios change.” But the President of the North Goa District BJP Mahand Asnodkar and Porvorim Mandal strongly opposed his entry into the party at a meeting held by the State President of the Sadanand Shet Tanavade and organized Satish Dhond Secretary to tell them about Khaunte’s decision into BJP.
Asnodkar said Khaunte joined BJP would have a negative impact on the prospect of the party in the upcoming elections not only in Porvorim but the whole state.
“We do not carry out caste politics but the inclusion of Khaunte will have a severe impact on the vulneruous community,” he said, signaling the status of the caste on Khaunte.
“Many of our workers have worked for a party for decades.
Khaunte has even called the head of the Minster Pramod Pappu.
Will Khaunte the same now work under Sawant?” He asked.
“Khaunte must have a washing machine from abroad to cleanse him before joining BJP,” he said.
Asnodkar also accused Khaunte having harassed BJP workers and would be difficult for them to work for him.
“I have full confidence in BJP Karakartas that they will not only vote against Khaunte but also convinced others not to choose him to defeat him,” he said.
Asnodkar said the Senior BJP official state understood their problems, but they claimed that they had pressure from “top”.
“All party workers are told to give candidates from the party and they will work to make it selected.
There may be more than one aspiran, but Khaunte is not from our party,” said Asnodkar.
