Goa: Sanguem Children risk their lives for network links

Quepem: In their search for Internet connectivity, some students from Vilien, Bhati, who are close to the netrevali wildlife asylum in Sanguem risk their lives to wild animals, in addition to anti-social.
Rama Gaonkar, Vili residents in the Bhati Panchayat area, said that her daughter almost traveled about three kilometers every day to reach the hill (Xetoddi) for better connectivity to attend online classes.
“We live in the Sanctuary wildlife.
We are afraid that wild animals can attack our children.
We are almost no choice,” he said.
Although online class has begun, a bad network haunts students living in Netravalli, Vaddem, Bhatti, Rivona and Barcem.
Some newly installed BSNL towers are also non-functional.
A year ago, BSNL has installed a tower in Vaddem in Sanguem, but still as a mere exhibition for villagers.
“We have suffered a lot after the construction of the Dam Selaulim.
Our village sank by water of the dam and we rehabilitate in colonies such as Vaddem, Valkinni and other areas.
But still after more than three decades, the government failed to provide basic needs such as roads, electricity and water,” said Joseph Cardozo, said a resident of Vaddem.
“Now the class has continued, but there is no internet connectivity.
The newly installed tower does not transmit any signals due to ordinary power failure.
According to the government’s request, I have bought two cellphones for my children even though my financial condition is not healthy,” said Resident Mauricio Rodrigues.
Risha Raikar, a student, said that being a girl, it was risky for her to go to Hillock through the forest.
Sacitri Social Workers Kavlekar recently submitted a memorandum to the BSNL General Manager who stated the lack of internet connectivity in villages such as Neturlim, Vadem, Bhatti, Rivona and Barcem.
“The tower was established with two generators, but none of them worked.
There is an uncertain power supply in all these villages,” he said.
BSNL General Manager Sanjay Kumar Chaudhari told the delegation that they faced the lack of staff, materials and acute funds to carry out the work of the tower repair.
“If there is a private operator that approaches us, we will allow them to install their equipment in the BSNL Tower,” Chaudhari said.
Kavlekar also filed a memorandum to cm about internet connectivity in Quepem and Sanguem Taluka.
