Goa Shipyard Ltd – built offshore ships join the coast guard fleet

PANAJI: Efforts of Indian coast guards to ensure adequate levels of styles and sustainable vigils along the western sea border and Indian exclusive economic zones get significant encouragement with commissioning ICGS Sarthak at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) on Thursday.
ICGS Sarthak, the fourth of five offshore patrol ships (OPV) built by GSL as part of the order of follow-up, will be based in Porbandar in Gujarat.
The last Fifth and OPV of the customary project, ICGS Saksham, is likely to be sent later this year.
Chairman and Managing Director of GSL B B Nagpal said that the Public Sector Shipyard had succeeded in compliance with the specified schedule even though the challenge was caused by Covid-19 pandemic.
2,450 tons of offshore patrol ships are a multi-mission platform capable of carrying out varied maritime operations.
This 105-MT warship was driven by two 9,100 kilowatt diesel engines designed to reach a maximum speed of 26 knots.
The vessels are equipped with equipment, machinery, sensors, and sophisticated weapons, which allow it to function as a command platform and conduct the mandated coast guard charter including search and rescue, fight maritime crime and protect and protect the marine environment.
“The coast of India Guard is a pioneer in inaugurating the customary platform and ICGS Sarthak is a glowing example of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” said Director General of India Coast Guard K Natarajan.
According to GSL, OPV has 70% customary equipment.
Icgs Sarthak was ordered by the Deputy Inspector General MM Syed with the 11 crew officers and 110 men.
The ship will operate by the western seaside of India under the operational and administrative control of the northwest coast guard area.
Ships, with critical supervision machines and weapons systems, will form a formidable part of the coast guard fleet and will be used to protect the exclusive economic zone of India and territorial waters and human trafficking operations.
