Colva: The steps that lead to the coast of Sernabatim, which are beaten by heavy rainfall and choppy oceans during the last rainy season, have been reduced to debris this year even when government institutions continue to graduate from their maintenance.
Toi has highlighted the condition of the precarious steps last year, but the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) – the development vehicle of the State Tourism Department – claims that maintaining them is the work of the Water Resources Department (WRD).
The latter, in turn, said that it had not been informed of the conditions declining from the steps both by local perforation or other government institutions.
WRD Executive Engineer Ankush Gaonkar, agreed that the projects were under PurView, said he did not even realize that the steps to the Sernabatim Beach were built by his department and that they had collapsed.
Assistant engineer GTDC pole vishad, on the other hand, said they were built and managed by WRD.
Steps on the Beach of Sernabatim are just one of several tourism infrastructure projects that are destroyed on the beach.
