Panaji: In a good example of public personal collaboration for policy changes, the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) partnered with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to study the sanitation costs imposed on commercial companies in the capital city.
This study found that the sanitation level was being collected without scientific and regional support and was not based on the quantum of waste produced.
GCCI found that the car showroom pays a higher sanitation fee compared to the vehicle service center, which produces more waste.
GCCI submitted a study finding to the CCP along with the draft proposal to revise sanitation fees.
“The draft proposal presented to the CCP team was attended by an interactive session with the CCP to ensure that it was a Win-Win proposition,” said GCCI President Ralph De Souza.
Former President GCCI Manoj Caculo has initiated the process with CCP Mayor of Rohit Monserrate, Commissioner of the City of Agnelo Fernandes and board members.
“The CCP asked for a detailed proposal and was well examined for amendments as the mayor and his team were both worried about the problem and wanted to bring help and revive the trade and business communities, but would rather a professional approach,” said Souza.
GCCI studies sanitation costs charged since March 2016 to August 20 along with 40 different types of commercial companies.
The Draft GCCI proposal along with the proposed revision has been uploaded by the CCP on its website for feedback until August 3.
