Panaji: Statistics of the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) for 2020 has revealed that Goa suicide level is 19.9% almost double the national average of 11.3%.
This report defines the suicide rate is the incident of the Suice population per lakh.
More than 1.5 lakh suicide was reported in India in 2020, a 10% increase in the previous year.
The suicide level also increased by 8.7% over the same period.
NCRB said that calculations were carried out using a projected population, which for cave 15.5 lakh.
Men accounted for 75% of the suicide registered by 2020 (234 of 308).
Mental health institutions state that there is a need to make mental health and suicide prevention of public health priorities.
“Today’s high mental health burden, it is reasonable to feel stress, anxiety and loneliness and fear during the crisis period, especially in this post Covid-19 times,” said Peter Borges, founder of the human touch foundation.
“We still need to add and gather mental health providers and conditions in the education system to ensure access to affordable quality and care for mental health conditions.” NCRB states that every suicide is a private tragedy that is prematurely taking the lives of an individual and has a sustainable ripple effect, affecting family life, friends and communities.

“There are various causes of suicide such as professional / career problems, sense of isolation, harassment, violence, family problems, mental disorders, alcoholism, financial losses, chronic pain,” NCRB said.
Bureau said that Maharashtra reported the most suicide (19,909), followed by Tamil Nadu with 16,883, Madhya Pradesh with 14,578, West Bengal with 13,103 and Kerala with 12,259.
“The five countries together contributed 50.1% of the total suicide reported in the country.
Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state (which has 16.9% of the country’s population) has reported a relatively lower percentage of suicide deaths, Accounting is only 3.1% of the total state suicide, “NCRB said.
