Goa: The life list of Avian Chicalim surges to a new height

Vasco: Chicalim Bio-Crusaders announces the addition of seven more birds with their Chicalim bird collection.
Chicalim Bio-Crusaders is the initiative of the villagers in Mormugao Taluka in South Goa.
This group was formed by Cyril Fernandes, an activist of rights as an initiative to document the village biodiversity.
Until now they have 118 members working every day to document local birds, wild animals, fish, flowers, trees, insects and all living things found and live together on Chicalim Island, Dabolim and St Jacinto in the jurisdiction of Panchayat Village from chicayat.
During the last four years bio-crusaders gathered to document their village biodiversity.
And the biggest beneficiaries of this group’s activities have become fauna and flora from Chicalim Island, Dabolim and St Jacinto.
Fernandes said, “We have documented 53 residents in Chicalim for a certain period of time.
That number has now increased to 60.
Chicalim Bio-Crusaders is now in the process of crashing into one or two wooden fields because there are no development zones so that our birds and Other wildlife has a habitat that is not disturbed for healthy safety and growth.
We have proposed such a zone with planning authorities such as Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) and the Coastal Zone Management Authority of Goa (GCZMA).

Rare and rich cave bird species such as Indian Pitta and Jacobin Cuckoo or red-handed lapwing are photographed almost every day in the area around Chicalim.
The villagers also joined in spotting and photographing this avian life.
Rare and beautiful birds like Indian Golden Oriole, Rufous Woodpecker, Malabar Pied Hornbill, Brahminy Kite is a Different Regularis by villagers.
