PONON: Five years after proposed, the third Borim Bridge finally received approval from the Union Minister of Transportation and Jalan Raya (MORTH).
The bridge has been approved in an annual fiscal plan for 2021-22.
The wing of the National Highway Public Works (PWD) has proposed a bridge in 2016 and has followed up with the Ministry of Union.
The proposed bridge will connect Borim at Ponda Taluka to Angadi, Louletim in Salcete and will function as an alternative route to the bridge that is surrounded by three decades above Zuari.
With a union government nod in place, PWD will now begin with land acquisition for the road approach from the Dhavli bypass road circle in Kavlem Village for Murme-Tamshirem in Borim.
Stretch covers almost 7 km.
Consultant Consultant Consultant Maharashtra Construction Pvt Ltd, who has entrusted consulting work since 2016, will rise to the bridge submitted to PWD, the Department Executive Engineer was attached to the Wing Highway Nation, Shashikant Desai, said.
The need for the third bridge appears after the problem arises in existing ones in just three decades of construction.
Rehabilitation work has been carried out in 2015-16 by Fressinet India based in Mumbai Limited.
The consulting company has conducted a geostatic study for bridges in 2017 and has suggested three different routes on the Zuari River.
The Ministry of Union completed the Borim-Louletim route.
Desai said the Ministry of Union took a long time to give this bridge sanction because they had given new bridge sanctions on Zuari and the state could not get two bridges at the same time.
The first bridge in Borim was built by the previous Portuguese ruler and existed by the state government in 1986.
The bridge functions as the only relationship between Ponda and Talcete Talaskas.
A decade ago, after the condition of the Zuari bridge weakened, heavy vehicle traffic was diverted to Borim Bridge.
