Saligao: The Bumper Tisreo (shellfish), which lasts several months in Verem has encouraged the villagers of Nerul neighbors to lament how their beach side – hotspots for green shells and other shellfish – now almost empty from the dish.
Verem Villagers knocks on resources from around the summer until mid-August, although quantum reduced now.
“This year, we got a very good catch from Tisreo like last year, and we hope to get a good harvest next year too,” said a village resident.
Some of them even visited the Riverside region in Verem to harvest some for themselves.
But locals sent them, reminding them of the similar treatment they faced in Nerul.
Until a few years ago, nerul about sea and river meetings was a rich habitat for green shells (Xinnanneo).
The fishermen provide good inventory at the dining table for many people in Bardez and so on.
But now almost no some handfuls found in what they think is a destroyed habitat.
Even the annual Fest Tisreachem – Litani and gathered on the Holy Cross as a plant celebration – has stopped, also because of a pandemic.
Some blame large-scale water sports activities and boating facilities on the beach.
“Many people will come from all over Bardez to Nerul, especially for green shells and also the shells that they really like.
But they are gone now,” said a local Godinho Eric.
Local residents blame pollution for adverse effects on their habitat.
“The oil spill from motorized boats can disrupt breeding clamps and shellfish,” said Bonny Pereira, said a local resident.
However, experts say that several factors may have an impact on maintenance.
“The main reason is the overexploard of fish.
This affects the regular cycle of their lives and even the next generation undergo fluctuations, which are unpredictable.
They just do not die (pollution) but accumulate poisons, which enter the food chain,” said an ecologist.
