Chennai: Customs officers at Chennai International Airport have confiscated 3.27 kg of gold worth Rs 1.59 Crore.
On Saturday, during the supervision of the field, officials found a suspicious polythene bag that was not claimed in Dustbin in the toilet in the arrival hall.
The bag contains gold foil with a silver layer, wrapped in carbon paper.
On extraction, 1.8 kg of gold – worth Rs 87.82 lakh – recovering.
Further investigation is underway, customs statement on Monday.
In other cases, two men, who arrived from Sharjah in Arabia air flights (G9 471) in early Monday were intercepted at the exit.
Seven gold bundles recovered from their rectum.
The restored gold weighed 1.47 kg and was worth 71.72 lakh Rs.
Passengers are arrested.
