The amazing final goal of the 19-year-old Nico Gonzalez substitute gave Barcelona three valuable points when they beat Elche 3-2 at Camp Nou in Laliga on Saturday.
After two league matches without victory and 3-0 insults from Bayern who dropped them from the Champions League in the group stage for the first time in almost two decades, Barca really wanted to win.
They started well and arguably had the best 45 minutes in the first season, with betting coach Xavi Hernández on his young players who appeared to pay when Spanish children Ferran Jutgla and Gavi both scored early goals.
With striker Memphis Depay and Ansu Fati was injured, Veteran Jutgla Lapfrogged Luuk De Jong as a starter in advance, and he sent the first goal with a header from the angle of Ousmane Dembele.
Four minutes later, Gavi’s teen sensation scored his first professional career goal to lead Double Barca.
But in the second half, Elche scored two goals in two minutes through Tete Morente and PE Milla, and it looked like running the Barca nightmare match was recently arranged to continue.
But Dembele found Gavi violated the Elche defense line in the 85th minute, and the young international cut the ball back to Nico in the area, which detonated the ball to the roof of the net.
The victory lifted Barca a place in the Seventh Standings, two points from European qualifying places but still 15 points behind Real Madrid league leaders.
“We will struggle to finish in the top four, and of course this victory will give us energy to go up (table),” Nico told reporters after the match.
Elche, who lost half of their league matches this season, could end up in the relegation zone at the end of the weekend.
