Google has announced new tools and features specifically designed to increase local news coverage.
This new feature is intended to read and report to help local news organizations.

This feature is present as expansion to provide higher local information for Covid-19-related queries and companies now expand similar features with other categories such as local government, sports, etc.
Google has mentioned that they have completed the entire algorithm of this system to make it more accurate and also offer more relevant local news sources appear next to national publications in the top stories and other general news features.
“This increase ensures people will see authoritative local stories when they are looking for news, helping the brand and the contents of news publishers reach more people,” Google said.
The company also managed to narrow subtoppents related to local news to provide local news that is more relevant to the reader.
“For example, if you are in Detroit and seek football, we will now show results for the local secondary and college team, rather than just showing results, say, a professional team,” Google said.
