Google approaches HC carnataka looking for more time to respond to CCI on Google Play Probe

New Delhi: TECH TITAN Google has submitted orders at the High Court Kartnataka which is looking for more time to reply to competition commission questions related to the Investigation of the Play Store rules.
Google said it respected the Indian Investigation Process Process (CCI) and “will continue to be cooperative and constructive for the benefit of a fair investigation”.
“We have submitted orders at the Karnataka High Court about temporary help applications on Google Play Probes by CCI, trying to move forward in accordance with the principles of the maturity process,” Google spokesman said in an email on Monday.
A source who is aware of the company’s position on this issue noted that Google has expanded the timeline for developers in India to integrate with the Play Billing System to October 31, 2022.
The source also said that Google believed that the extension of the deadline voluntarily put out the needs of ‘interim injunctive reliefs’ Wanted by Adif (Alliance of Digital India Foundation).
Therefore, the pressure on a very tight schedule is about because there are no hasty causes, the source is added.
Google has also made other ‘procedural’ requests to CCI in connection with the identity of the complainant (which will help respond adequately for complaints) and the inclusion of Judicial members in the Probe panel.
In the absence of urgency, Google believes CCI must observe the process because of the interests of a fair and comprehensive investigation, the source said.
Earlier this month, Google said it was postponing the deadline for developers in India to integrate with the game billing system starting from 2022 next year.
In October last year, the company announced March 31 2022 as a deadline for developers in India to integrate with the Play billing system.
Announce the extension of the time limit for developers in India to integrate with the game billing system, Google, on December 10, 2021, said the move remembered changes to repeated digital payment guidelines in India.
“We extend this until October 31, 2022 to provide developers in India product support needed for repetitive payments through convenient user payment systems, including UPI and wallets, and also gives them more time considering the changing guidelines for repeated Indian digital payments,” said Google spokesman.
In the past, Indian developers and startups had raised concerns around the Google billing system, said the technology giant could not force the developer / owner of Indian applications to sell digital services with required to use the billing system.
Google previously stated that applications that choose to sell digital content through its play store must use the Google Play Billing System and pay the percentage of purchases in the application as a fee.
It has given time until September 30, 2021 to complete the required updates.
However, it has extended the time limit until March 31, 2022 after worries from the developer community in India.
The timeline has now been pushed to October next year.
The technology giant has emphasized that the payment policy is not new and always requires developers who distribute their applications while playing, to use the Google Play billing system if they offer digital goods purchases in the application.
