Google India has announced the Launch of India-First features on Google Maps where users can access their current location to find a plus code address for their home.
Plus codes are free digital addresses, open sources, which provide simple and accurate addresses for each place on earth, including for places that do not have accurate formal addresses.
Since their launch in 2018, plus the code has been adopted on a scale by NGOs in India and the government because it serves millions of people’s offer needs.
Instead of street names and locality, the plus code is based on latitude and longitude and is displayed as a short order of numbers and letters, giving the door accuracy.
The plus code also relieves discovery and navigation into business.
Commenting on the launch, Amanda Bishop, Product Manager, Google Maps said, “In addition to the efforts led by the community, we are also committed to empowering users to directly use the code address plus for daily needs.
We tested this feature in India a month ago, and happy Sharing that more than 300,000 users in India have found their home address using a code plus.
We look forward to expanding more types of places, and actively looking for opportunities to partner with e-commerce, logistics, and shipping companies, to improve experience to more People around the world.
“Plus code addresses can be accessed smoothly, ranging from food, medicines, or packages sent, send locations to friends or family, without the hassle of sharing address sharing with landmarks, or sound instructions that might be ambiguous.
How to use a Code Plus on Google Mapswhen Save the location of ‘home’ on Google Maps, users will see ‘Use your current location’ that use their cellphone location to generate a plus code, which can then be used as their home address.
There is also a new section at the top of the ‘Save’ tab to make it easier to take, copy, and share this home address.
This feature is currently available on Android, with Apple iOS to immediately follow.
