Bengaluru: Google said receiving a total of 27,762 complaints in April from each user in India about content on the platform, and deleted 59,350 items.
Disclosures come as part of their first monthly transparency report, requirements under the new IT rules of India that come into force from May.
Most complaints are related to copyright infringement (96%), with others to become a trademark (1.3%), defamation (1%) and other legal issues (1%).
Government complaints are not part of this.
The company said issuing government requests for transferring content based on two years in existing transparency reports.
“To allow sufficient time for processing and data validation, there will be a two-month lag for reporting.
In future reports, data on transfers as a result of automatic detection, as well as data relating to the imitation and complaints of graphic sexual content received by Post 25 May 2021, it will be included.
We are committed to making improvements in the iteration of future reports based on feedback from all stakeholders, including providing more granular data, “Google said.
The new rules requested significant social media intermediaries (SSSMI) to “publish periodic compliance reports every month that mention the details of the complaints received and the actions taken on it, and the number of specific communication links or information parts are deleted or activated by the intermediary.
