Frizzter: Gopalpur Beach, offshore Ganjam, is still polluted despite many steps taken to keep the beach clean.
This was revealed in a survey conducted by the Marine Science Department of the University of Marines (BU) after a cleanliness encouraging to mark the day of international coastal cleaning on Saturday.
“This study shows that 4.82 grams of solid waste materials were found per square meter beach this year, which was much higher than the previous years.
In 2018, we have found 1.6 grams of solid waste per square meter, while 3 , 6 grams in 2019, “said Pratap Kumar Mohanty, professor of the Marine Science Department, said.
He added that they could not do beach cleaning training today last year due to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic.
On Saturday, the Law Department of Marine Ber in collaboration with the National Coastal Center, Chennai, the Ministry of Earth Sciences and Technocraft Academy here collected a lot of garbage and debris from Gopalpur Beach.
Some other organizations such as the Zoolological Survey of India, Port Gopalpur Limited, the Gopalpur Council, Light and Lokas home officials took part in the training, which was inaugurated by Mla Bikram Panda and Sub-collector Keerthi Vssan V.
Mohanty said, “During the trip three Half an hour, we collected solid waste 67.10 kg of eight types of 13,934.8 km square beach area.
This includes non-biodegradable plastic, plastic foam, rubber, glasses, paper and metal different.
“It’s separate, students and Volunteers also create awareness about keeping the beach clean.
