Government Choose Bids for Six MTNL, BSNL Property

New Delhi: This center has begun the process of auctioning non-core assets of two telecommunications companies managed by the state, BSNL and MTNL.
The Department of Investment and Management of Public Assets (Depam) has invited offers on the MSTC portal for six BSNL and MTNL properties, starting monetizing non-core assets of two telecommunications PSUs that struggle.
The two companies, which failed to show credible turnover despite being given a large-scale RS 70,000 crore resurrection package, having massive land assets throughout the country worth thousands of crores.
However, the government will begin the sales process of some of these assets gradually.
There are land use problems that can put limits to utilize the land for non-telecommunications purposes.
Apart from Land Bank, the previous government also discussed the monetization of BSNL and MTNL tower assets, although not much progress seemed to have been made.
The center launched the Monetization Plan for the Crore Asset 6 Lakh for the next four years.
The identified assets include roads, power transmission and power plants, gas pipes, warehousing, trains, telecommunications, 25 airports, 31 projects in nine main ports, coal and mineral minerals, sports stadia, rebuilding colonies.
Only Brownfield assets will be considered; Land has been abandoned.
The top five sectors include: road (27%), followed by train (25%), power (15%), oil & gas pipes (8%) and telecommunications (6%).
The road and train together accounted for 52% of the total NMP value, in accordance with government data.
