Lucknow: The Government of Uttar Pradesh has cleared government assistance for 2,224 children, including 121 in Lucknow, who has lost their parents to Covid.
The development came after TI highlighted that orphans could not get government assistance because they did not have documents to prove that their parents died of Coronavirus infection.
Officials of the Women’s Department and the development of state children told TII that government assistance was approved for 2,224 out of a total of 3,900 covid orphans registered in the state.
Among 2,224 cases, 163 cases are minors who lose both parents.
Under the state government scheme, a Covid orphan will receive Rs 4,000 per month until he reaches the age of 18.
Furthermore, their education will be free at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya and Atal Housing School.
The government will also provide laptops or tablets for children in class 10 or above for online classes.
In accordance with conservative estimates, the government for the possibility of spending around Rs 11 Crore every year at 2,224 orphans as financial assistance.
“Because of gradual awareness among residents, we still receive calls about Covid orphans and the number tends to increase.

To provide assistance, the district assignment unit has been formed with district judges as nodal officers.

“According to the latest Childline data, Lucknow himself has 264 small orphans covid and only 46% of cases which has been cleaned for help.
But like the NCPRC Bal Swaraj Covid nurse, only 202 orphans that have been registered.
“We will add the remaining children too, no one will be left behind,” Rai said.
