Government issues revision Covid guidelines on drug use, masks for children

New Delhi: The use of antiviruses or monoclonal antibodies is not recommended for those who are less than 18 years, regardless of the severity of Covid infection, and if steroids are used, they must tap more than 10 to 14 days, subject to clinical improvement, the government said on Thursday .
In the ‘comprehensive guidelines revised for Covid-19 management in children and adolescents (under 18 years), the Ministry of Health also said that the mask was not recommended for children aged five years and down.
Those who are 6-11 years old can use them depending on the ability of children to use the mask safely and just under the direct supervision of parents, he said.
Those who are 12 years and over must wear a mask with the same conditions as adults, the ministry said.
Guidelines reviewed by a group of experts remember the current surge surge which is mainly associated with the Omicron variant of Coronavirus, which is also a concerned variant.
Data available from other countries show that diseases caused by omicron variants are less severe.

In the case of asymptomatic and lightweight, antimicrobial is not recommended for therapy or prophylaxis, the ministry said.
In the case of moderate and severe, antimicrobials should not be prescribed unless there is a clinical suspicion of the infection that is left, the ministry said.
In the case of shock septic, empirical antimicrobial, according to body weight, is often added to cover all possible pathogens based on clinical assessment, patient host factors, local epidemiology and hospital antimicrobial policies, he said.
Guidelines state that steroids are not indicated and dangerous in the case of asymptomatic and mild Covid-19.
They were only shown in Covid-19 cases that were severe and pain-19 under strict supervision, the word guideline.
Steroids must be used at the right time, in the right dose and for the right duration, they stated.
Corticosteroids can be used in moderate cases and all severe progressive, such as 0.15 mg / kg dexamethasone, a maximum dose of six mg once a day or methylprednisolone 0.75 mg / kg, a maximum dose of 30 mg once a day, the guidelines are expressed.
They can be continued for five to seven days and tapered to 10-14 days, depending on clinical assessment every day, they stated.
Steroids should be avoided in three to five days since the appearance of symptoms because of extending the shedding of the virus, the guidelines are stated.
Anticoagulants are not routinely indicated and all children who are hospitalized must be evaluated to risk experiencing thrombosis and monitored for the development of thrombosis, the ministry said.
As far as regarding post-covid-19 treatment, guidelines state that children with asymptomatic infections or mild diseases must accept routine child care, appropriate vaccination (if qualified), nutritional counseling, and psychological support at follow-up.
In addition to the above, parents or caregivers of children, who suffer from Covid are up to heavily, during the discharge of the hospital must be advised about monitoring for perseverance or worsening breathing difficulties and explaining indications to bring children back to facilities, stated guidelines .
Children who develop any specific dysfunction of any organs during hospitalization or later, must receive proper care, they said.
