Government of India Chooses Chandigarh University as GATI Charter Institution to Encourage Sex equality in Science and Technology

CHANDIGARH: Department of Science & Technology (DST) under the aegis of Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India (GOI) has Chosen Chandigarh University as GATI Charter Institution (Gender Advancement for Transforming Institutions) for the promotion of gender equality in the field of Science & Technology.

An amount of 30 Faculties and Institutions are chosen by DST for its GATI pilot job along with Chandigarh University is the only private industry college of India to be chosen by the GOI. Amongst the Institutions chosen for its GATI pilot job from the government sector include Delhi, University of Kashmir, BHU Varanasi.

While providing details concerning the GATI pilot project has been conducted by DST,” Dr Sanjeet Singh, Dean Research, Chandigarh University, stated,”The project will be aimed to enhance the overall enrolment of female students from higher education associations within the area of science, engineering, technology, math, and medication (STEMM) and to encourage women involvement in scientific labs, patents and research”.

Dr Sanjeet added the GATI application is part of KIRAN branch (Knowledge Involvement in Research Advancement via Nurturing) below which charter institutions/universities are chosen after a stringent selection standards including female: male ratio in pupils enrolment, female: male ratio in college appointed, participation of female students & faculty research and entrepreneurship.

Chandigarh University is also an associate Institution of DST below INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) curriculum that’s utilized to draw talent from colleges towards mathematics, and college conducts INSPIRE camps in its campus annually where pupil pupils from Punjab experience practical hands-on instruction on jobs to ensure their curiosity could be developed within the area of science and also they pick their livelihood in STEMM fields.

Dr S.S Sehgal, Registrar, Chandigarh University stated,”Chandigarh University is currently taking amount of initiative to enhance the sex equality in each of the programs provided. Presently the female enrolment at STEMM topics is 46.9 percent while the amount of female college in STEMM areas is currently 51.4 percent”. The University had registered a total of 900 patents from that 30% taxpayers are registered by female college and students while from their overall 108 start-ups incubated at CU-TBI (Technology Business Incubator) has 47 percent start-ups created by female students, he added.
