Thiruvananthapuram: The government and opposition locked the horns on the availability of a seat plus in the state, especially in northern districts, after a high percentage of victory in the results of the SSLC this year.
While the government said that it would cover its shortcomings through an increase in marginal seats, the opposition quoted it on the grounds that the government had to increase batches through policy decisions.
In his reply to the leader of Iuml MK Muneer who was seeking leave for the postponement movement in this issue, the Minister of Public Education V Sivankutty said that while the number of students received in a higher secondary course last year was 1,65,800 seats, there were 1,40,800 seats available.
With a marginal increase of 20% proposed in the northern region of Palakkad to Kasaragod, there will be 1,68,960 available seats which are expected to redeem the shortcomings.
He said that the government was ready to discuss with opposition based on the district after the first allotment to redeem the shortcomings.
Muneer said that the government should not view the country as a whole and talk about the availability of seats in this matter.
In addition to increasing the number, there will be a flood of students from the Gulf, and also from CBSE and ICSE which will make the tomb situation.

Also, the court clearly said that the marginal increase was not permitted.
What we need is a new batch through government policy intervention.
After 2015-16, there is no new batch that has been allocated in the state.

He said that the number of students who qualified for a plus one course and the actual number of seats available in Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod quoted by the Minister of Education was not right because it was much higher than the quoted.
, Oppo Leader V D Sathean said that from 3.61,000 plus one seat was available, 55,000 were in 361 schools without assistance, and this further cut the chair available in government schools.
Also, the number of students who bagged A-Plus in all subjects for SSLC has tripled from 42,000 years to 1.12,000 this year.
“The High Court, while providing assistance to the government last year because Covid-19, clearly said that the government must make the necessary arrangements at the beginning of the upcoming academic year.
Until now, the government has not done anything to overcome this grave problem,” he said.
The opposition then carried out a walk-out after speaker M B Rajesh refused to recognize the movement of delay, based on an explanation by the Minister.
