Government plan 4,000 MW 'power bank' to encourage the domestic industry

New Delhi: The government plans to regulate the storage of ‘bank’ batteries from 4,000 MW (Mega Watt) for grid operators and discounts, indicating an innovative approach to promoting renewable energy and encouraging domestic manufacture in the sunrise sector.
“We intend to come out with an offer for 4,000 MWH storage in addition to the four RLDC (regional load shipping center) we will have 1000 MWh storage (each) that will act as an instant intervention mechanism anywhere and every time there are sharp fluctuations Because of renewable energy, “Minister of Power RK Singh told the industrial seminar on Thursday.
The power bank will help address intermitment problems and enable increased management of inventory fluctuations.
This is a big obstacle in promoting renewable energy.
The storage plan will allow discos and grid operators to save the same power and draw the same to manage peak requests.
The concept of the power bank will further reduce the utility of the thermal plant which is currently needed to supply ‘basic load’ and maintain network stability and make space in the grid for more renewable energy.
The importance of the concept of the power bank can be assessed from the fact that the IEA in the world’s electricity market report on Thursday said thermal generation increased due to renewable energy could not match with increasing electrical demand.
The plan imagines offers part of the storage capacity to regional grid controllers, which will use the power to stabilize the grid if there is a sudden surge in demand.
The rest of the capacity will be available for developers to be used commercially.
Discom can have commercial capacity to store power on a medieval day or when heavy winds and pull electricity from it during rush hour.
This scheme also aims to utilize government pli (performance incentive schemes) to promote domestic manufacturing in the renewable energy sector.
“We will add more storage.
We already have a PLI scheme.
We want the capacity to be based on manufacturing in India.
We don’t want to export work to China or other countries,” Singh said.
